While the game (on both sides) didn’t get any help from the officials, who honestly seemed like they were high during the entire second period, or the incredibly craptastic ice conditions, there were only maybe 3 players in the line-up tonight who really seemed to have their heads in the game, and one of them didn’t even make the start! We were sloppy, complacent and slow and we lacked the finishing we needed.
There were sparks of the Jackets team we saw in Vancouver though from the likes of Calvert, Upshall and Nash. I know our boys can pull this out! They have the talent and the heart we just need them to stick with more consistency!
Come on boys, shake this one off and give The Flames what for!

DEAR STUPID ISLES FANS,
PLEASE STOP TRYING TO DEFEND TREVOR GILLIES’ BEHAVIOR BY TALKING ABOUT HOW THIS PLAYER OR THAT PLAYER ARE DIRTY TOO AND DO X, Y, AND Z! YOU’RE NOT HELPING YOUR CASE, YOU’RE ONLY MAKING YOURSELVES LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF DUMBASSES AND THUGS!
Some of you keep saying that you’re “not defending Gillies or anything, but…” followed by rambling on about how another player plays dirty (usually a diatribe about Cooke). Point of fact, you ARE defending Gillies. Dirty is dirty and just because there might be a dirtier player out there (there isn’t) doesn’t mean that Gillies should be “let go”. The “AWWWW, BUT THEY’RE DOING IT TOO.” defense stops working somewhere around the time a person enters Kindergarten.
Yes Matt Cooke is dirty and he levels some foul hits (Fedor Tyutin happens to be one of my Favorite players), and I think the Pens should be slapped around with sticks for giving him an “A”, or a job at all really.
However, Trevor Gillies is BEYOND ANYTHING Matt Cooke could ever hope to be. Gillies is the hockey equivalent of that mob guy who goes around busting knee caps and cutting off fingers with cigar cutters to get people to pay up.
Hitting and fighting in Professional Men’s hockey will ALWAYS have a place, Gillies “style” of douchery DOES NOT.
If the Isle themselves won’t step up and do what they should have done long ago and escort Gillies to the curb with the rest of the trash, the the League itself is going to have to or the next headline about Gillies is going to be “Hockey Player Dies on Ice After Dirty Hit!” and the sport isn’t going to survive something like that.
For the record, I am not a Pens OR an Isles fan.

Bonus minirant, it would be nice if more than one of these so call sports “journalists” would set aside their own team and emotional biases when “report” or commenting on this entire event. Leave the irrationality, crazy and stupidity to the fans folks, seriously.

As far as I’m concerned the fans ARE a part of the team and I will continue to say “we” and to call them “my guys/boys” and I have no fucks to give that some people might have a problem with that.
